The limit is four fish with one trout over 18 inches. Outdoors Correspondent Fall fishing can provide some of the year's best fishing opportunities, as water temperatures cool and hungry fish actively feed to last the Jordanelle Reservoir Good fishing from boats using pop gear, upcoming winter season. Fishing pressure, in general, decreases after Labor Day weekend and anglers, who are prepared for cold weather, can enjoy great fishing before ice covers many of Utah's waters. Kevin Christopherson, Aquatics Manager of the Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR), announces that now is the time to fish. He reports, "Until ice-u- p anglers can expect some of the best fishing of the year for a number of reasons: 1) Water levels are down, concentrating fish and making them easier to find; 2) Fall mixing of lakes and reservoirs produces a flush of nutrients, which stimulates heavy feeding in trout; 3) Cooler surface temperatures in reservoirs mean trout are often feeding in shallow water closer to shore; and 4) Spawning brown trout tend to be very aggressive and readily strike at lures." The DWR provides the following late fall forecast for several popular waters across the state: Strawberry Reservoir Float tubers and boaters are doing well, but shore anglers are also reporting catches of cutthroats and rainbows up to 24 inches. Fish are taking baits, lures, popgear, and flies. Recent snows have made access difficult to several areas of the reservoir. Be prepared for cold weather and bring plenty of warm clothes. Anglers are asked to voluntarily rapalas, triple teasers, and other lures, while powerbait provides the best shoreline action. Provo River Heavy pressure on the river since reports of the spawning browns were released. Anglers are asked to stay out of the spawning areas to provide future fishing opportunities on this very productive stretch of water. Only two brown trout, less than 15 inches, may be kept and proper handling of fish is critical, due to the extreme pressure this water receives. All rainbows and cutthroats must be immediately released. Deer Creek Reservoir Fishing has been picking up since 40,000 catchable rainbows were smallmouth planted. Small-size- d bass can be caught along rocky structure. other and points Recommendations include using a charcoal or brown skirted jig, or experimenting with various minnow imitating lures. Trolling triple teasers or carter spoons at 0 feet has been effective for trout. A threaded worm and pop gear combination has also been working well. Yellow perch must be immediately released and minimum bass size is 20-3- 12". Scofield Reservoir Fair to good fishing reported for anglers using baits along the shore. Powerbait, floated a few feet above the bottom, has been effective. Leech patterns have also been doing well. Trolling Krocodiles and flat fish has been effective for boat anglers. Good fishing Fish Lake reported for rainbow and splake trout, with little fishing pressure. Jigging lures tipped with perch or sucker meat is working for splake, while trollers and powerbait anglers are catching rainbows.
