Show Computer genealogy classes to be taught are Cowboy poetry to be featured at benefit Computer genealogy classes among the many classes to be offered at Alpine School District's Community Education program which will be starting soon. Step by step instructions, demonstrations and hands-o- n use of the Personal Ancestral File 2.31 (PAF) and the FamilySearch computer program will be included in the topics covered by instructor Cowboy poetry returns to Lehi this week, with a few new twists on the popular event. First, the evening has been set up as a benefit for Tanya McKinnon, the 1995 Lehi Roundup Queen who went on to become Miss Rodeo Utah and will soon represent the state at the 1995 Miss Rodeo America in November. The event will be held Thursday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Lehi Junior High School, 700 E. Cedar Hollow Rd., Lehi. A suggested donation of $5 per person has been set to help raise funds for Miss McKinnon in her quest for the national title. Advanced tickets are available at Western Tack and Togs, 36 S. 200 West, or at Ream's Boots and Jeans, 86 W. Main, both Lehi. Tickets will also be available at Lynell Shock. The beginning class, taught on Tuesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m., from Sept. 26 through Nov. 21, covers software installation, configuration, options, and entering and editing information. Intermediate classes, which will be offered from 4 to 5: 30 p.m. and again from 8 to 9:30 p.m., during the same dates, will cover program Citizen 'Press ,Review All PAF classes will be taught in Room 1 of Lehi High School, 180 N. 500 East. Cost for the program is $48, which includes a manual. Those who register before Sept. 18 may receive a $5 discount. A native of Morgan, Utah, Van Tassel has been involved with cowboy poetry for over six years and he appeared at the Festival of the American West in Logan, as well as the Idaho and Utah state fairs. He works at the Skull Valley Ranch from Castle Rock, Utah and has also served an LDS mission to New Zealand. Guitarist Brenn Hill will accompany some of Van Tassel's presentations on the guitar, and will also perform by himself during the evening.
