Show Franklin Citizen, Press, Review - Wed., Nov. 9, 1994 . Page 15 Academy open house Utah County's newest alternative in private education has opened its doors with great success. Benjamin Franklin Academy (B.F.A.) is so named because its philosophy is based on a principle once taught by Benjamin Franklin, that "learning to serve God, family and country should be the aim and end of all true education." The school, which is located at 30 S. Center in American Fork, will be opening an afternoon session at the end of November to accommodate increasing enrollment. An open house will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. to orient students as well as to provide information for parents who are interested in a different approach to their children's schooling. Enrollment began this fall at the American ForkB.FA. with 75 students, ranging in age from nine years to adults. According to administrator Mary Fugal, there seems to be a big demand for alternatives such as this school. The local facility has two classrooms. Junior students, ages are taught in one room by LaReta Brinkerhoff, while Brent DeGraff teaches a Spanish class, as well as the senior students, ages 12 and up, in the other. The difference in the approach at B.F.A. is that the students' education has a special emphasis on the Constitution of the United States and the skill of recalling facts.
