Honey, prominent Grove .musician and conductor, will direct the Utah Pageant of the Arts Symphony Orchestra and Chorus (formerly Alpine Area Chamber Music Society) in a concert of the traditional Christmas music of George Frederic Handel's "The Messiah," Dec. 13 at the American Fork Tabernacle (First East and Main Street) at 7:30 p.m. Constance Peterson, Pleasant Grove vocalist, will perform the n contralto role in the Christmas classic. Other featured soloists will be 9Sm miliim i , J I well-know- Peter De Van Graaff, bassbaritone; Harold Jay Madsen, tenor; Kathleen Van De Graaff, soprano; and Cornelia Madsen, Leon Honey University (BA and MA) and has done graduate work at Pepperdine Beach State Long University, University and BYU. He is currently in his seventh year as director of instrumental music at Pleasant Grove High School. y He is a member of the Symphony Orchestra and has also been a member of the Provo Municipal Band under the direction of Ralph Lay cock. Mrs. Peterson was born in Salt Lake City, graduating from South High School, where she participated in several choir groups. She has performed in both solos and duets since age eight. She has resided in Hawaii and Lancaster, California, where she also performed as a vocalist, and in Cortez, Colorado, where she appeared with the Opera Association, appearing in "South Pacific," "The Drunkard," and "Boat." She has studied with Bob and Judy Gregory (Metropolitan Opera singers) and has performed in "The Utah-Valle- Four-Corne- Messiah" with the Pageant Symphony (formerly Alpine Area Chamber Music Society) for the past three years. She was a soloist in the Pageant Symphony Stephen Foster Concert, earlier this fall. Van De GVraaff is a native of Chicago, where he received his first musical training and performance experience. His teachers have included Leslie Guinn at the University of Michigan, and Ralph Woodward and Lois Johnson at Brigham Young University. His oratorio experience includes solos with the Utah Bach Chorus in the "B Minor Mass" and cantatas, and solos with the Israel Chamber Orchestra in Handel's "Utrecht Jubilare" and Mozart's "Missa Brevis." Last summer he played Christ in Opera West's production of "The Book of Mormon Oratorio." He debuted in October with the Boise Opera Company in "The Marriage of Figaro." Harold Jay Madsen was born in Provo and attended public schools in Washington, D.C., and of Standards for Suicide Prevention and Dodie in Crisis Centers; said. "We have a great concern about the number of young people developing a feeling of hopelessness and becoming involved in behaviors." Tickets will be sold at the door. Honey has been a performing musician for more than 40 years. His first instrument was the clarinet. The clarinet led to other woodwind instruments upon which he performed professionally in such groups as the Albuquerque Civic Symphony, the Phoenix Symphony, Taliesen West and many others. He has conducted many choirs during this time and has written several compositions for choir. This is his fifth season as musical director for "The messiah." He has degrees from Arizona State in this area. His family spent time overseas, but returned to Utah Valley in time for him to attend and graduate from Orem High School. hile in high school he was a member of the A Cappella Choir and the Chamber Choir. He has studied with Olga Gardner, BYU and with university performing groups. He is currently attending BYU, where he is majoring in engineering.
