Ralph Binnall Insurance. In his experience as a plumber, Lee Allridge said he has found that a few simple safety precautions and regular maintenance procedures can save any household a lot of trouble in unnecessary damage and repairs or even save it from a disaster. The first section of the card allows the family to note down the location of water, gas and electrical shut off valves as well as the electrical panel, first aid kit and fire extinguisher. For example, in the Allridge home valve is in the the water shut-of- f southeast corner of the basement. Homeowners will usually find the water shut off valve in the basement at the front of the house. In addition to noting its location for every member of the family, they should also check to make sure it works. The gas shut-of- f valve is usually outside by the gas meter and requires a crescent wrench to turn it to lock position. The electrical shut-of- f is usually near or in the electrical panel or near where the power line comes into the house. All responsible family members should be taught how to turn the valve off in an emergency. kits and fire Locations of first-ai- d extinguisher should also be noted. The fire extinguisher should be Winter properly maintained with periodic testing. The next section of the card lists some simple preventive maintenance and safety tips that all households should follow. The card also provides space to list important telephone numbers for all types of emergencies. Allridge and Binnall said they urge local residents to train family members as they fill out the card, and to place it in an accessible location to be used when needed. jjt fantasy ji.
