Fehruarv 1. 194 - Page 4 Rulon Peterson to celebrate ml jiSra eightieth birthday Saturday The family of Rulon Peterson will host an open house to honor their father on his 80th birthday. It will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, from 3 to 5 p m. at the Senior Citizens Center, 165 North 100 East, Lehi, (downstairs, north door). All friends and relatives are invited to attend. He was born Feb. 10, 1904, to Christian and Mary Peterson in Lehi. Rulon is the youngest member of a family of eight. He married June Lynch Feb. 24, 1926 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of four children: Mrs. Robert (Elaine) Osborne, Chatsworth. Calif.; Mrs. Layton ...?? . (LuJean) Rayl, Salt Lake City; Glade Peterson, Lehi; Mrs. Neil Bingham, Centerville. (Lynett) They have 14 grandchildren and 18 Rulon farmed for many years. He worked for the Utah State Road Department for 16 years and for the Utah County Road Department for two years. He has been retired for 14 years. Rulon is a devoted husband and father. He is well known and will long be remembered for the loving care that he extends to his ailing wife. He is truly an example to all of his family and associates. Lott, Senior Citizen president. Refreshments will be served. Bowl your heart out for the Rock John and Alice Broadbent have accepted a call to serve in the Texas-Dalla- s Mission for six months. They were honored at a farewell service held Sunday in the Ninth Ward. Speakers were Bishop Kent Peterson, Bishop Craig Berry, and John and Alice. A musical number was furnished by grandchildren: Emily Frandsen, Rebecca and Bonnie Anderson. The couple will enter the Missionary Training Center on Feb. 15. They own the Broadbenfs Store and recently celebrated the store's centennial birthday. The first business license was issued in 1882 to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Broadbent, John's grandparents. They will leave the store's management to their three children: Nan Frandsen, of Virginia; David Broadbent, and Betty Anderson. John is recovering from a broken hip, suffered several weeks ago when he fell while knocking icicles from the roof of his store. He would not consider postponing the mission, "I've looked forward to this for too long. My hip will be okay. At least it's not going to stop me from serving this mission," John stated. John is a son of Joseph Samuel Broadbent and Annie Shaw Broadbent, was born in Lehi on Feb. 1, 1917, one of 12 children. He received his education in Lehi graduating from Lehi High School in 1935. He was active in the high school band and male chorus. He has since played in the Lehi Silver Band and has served in numerous church and civic capacities. When he was 20 years old his father died leaving him the responsibility of managing the store and helping his mother operate the greenhouse. He has operated the store since it's beginning in 1882. fie was a city councilman and a member of the Lehi Fire Department for many years. He was also a member of the Lehi Riding Club. He married Alice Meirl Davis in the Salt Lake Temple in 1939. Alice, the fifth child in a family of six children of Rual Dennis Davis and Mary Louisa Kitchen, was born and raised in Provo, Utah. She graduated from Provo High School and received a year's in Business and training Mechanical Drafting at the Woodbury College in Los Angeles. In the summer of 1937 she came to Lehi to work for her sister, Eva Anderson, met and married John and has been a devoted mother while working in civic and church affairs all her married life. She has spent many hours clerking in Broadbenfs, inspires others in needlework endeavors, float building, and many civic projects. in Roll Jamboree Lindon Care and Training Center and other Utah County nursing homes are sponsoring the Rock in Roll Jamboree at the Super Bowl in Lindon on Feb. 11. All proceeds will go to the Heart Association. Activities will include open and tournament bowling, a bake sale, hot dog stand and a raffle.
