New frozen dinners and baking mixes are filling the grocery store shelves. These products are quick and easy to prepare which in d our world is essential. However, there is a disadvantage to all the convenience: it can get very expensive. One way to overcome this problem is to make your own mixes at home. Homemade Master Mix takes only a small amount of time to mix together and it can be used fast-pace- exactly as the commercially prepared baking mix. Tuna Bake with Cheese Swirls is an economical and delicious way to use the master mix. It is easy to prepare and will soon become a family favorite. You will never believe that Onion Cheese Supper Bread is made from a mix after you taste it. This bread has a 'zesty cheddar cheese flavor that makes it versatile enough to serve at a simple supper or a company dinner. Homemade Master Mix 8Ms cups flour 1 Tbsp. baking powder 1 Tbsp. salt 2 tsp. cream of tartar 1 tsp. baking soda xh cups instant nonfat dry milk 2Vt cups vegetable shortening In a large bowl, sift together all 'dry ingredients. Blend well. With pastry blender, cut in shortening until evenly distributed. Mixture will resemble cornmeal in texture. Put in a large airtight container. Label. Store in a cool, dry place. Use within 10 to 12 weeks. Makes 'about 13 cups Master Mix. Our three sons girl for Snyders A "Our Three Sons" is the name of the action at the home of Bert and Rebecca Gray. The muscular little man tipped the scales at a dimply eight pounds nine and a half ounces and measured 20 inches tall. He will be named Steven Nathan. 'Add san and flour; blend. Stir in soup and milk and cook until sauce is thick and smooth, stirring constantly. Add flaked tuna and lemon juice. Pour into greased baking dish and cover with Cheese Swirls. Bake at 450 deg. F 15 minutes; reduce heat to 425 and cook for additional 15 minutes. I Serves 6; Until J,ender, ) Cheese Swirls 2 cups Master Mix 23 to 34 cup milk cup grated Cheddar Cheese In a small bowl, combine Master Mix and milk. Stir until blended. On a lightly floured surface, knead dough gently for 30 seconds. Roll dough 14 inch thick; sprinkle grated cheese over dough. slices. Roll, then cut into e down on casserole. Bake, Onion Cheese Supper Bread 2 cups chopped onion 4 Tbsp. oil 4 eggs, beaten 2 cups milk 6 cups Master Mix 4 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese 3 Tbsp. poppy seed 8 Tbsp. butter, melted I Cook onion in oil until tender and ilightly browned. Combine eggs and milk; add to Master Mix. Stir only until dry ingredients are moistened. I Add all of the onion and half of the fcheese and half of poppy seed to dough, blending well. Spread dough in three greased 9" x 5" loaf tins. Sprinkle tops with remaining cheese and poppy seed. Drizzle with melted butter. Bake at 400 F. for 20 to 25 minutes or until done.
