Fair news Talent competition divided into regions The Utah County Fair Talent Competition will be divided into four regions for the 1983 season. Don Machan and Charlie Cruise, fair board members in charge of the talent competition and Big Top entertainment, have indicated that three winners will be awarded plaques (first, second and third place winners in two categories: Juniors (15 and under) Seniors (16 and over). Regional first and second place winners in each category will advance to the Utah County Fair Talent Competition finals, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. under the Big Top tent. Third place winners will be alternates for their respective regions. They will be notified if first or second place winners default. Prizes for the finals will be cash awards: First, $35; Second. $20; and Third, $15, in each category. "Many people throughout the state who suffered losses due to the recent flooding may presently find themselves without means of recovering from those losses," said Capt. Fred Rasmussen, chairman of the task force. "The task force's main objective is to make sure that anyone affected by the flooding has access to available resources to begin rebuilding their lives." Beach Boys to play at benefit KSL-TV'- s Dick Nourse and one of Utah's favorite musical groups, the Beach Boys, are joining together for a benefit concert for the Utah Division, American Cancer Society. It's the "Dick Nourse Concert for the American Cancer Society featuring the Beach Boys" on Friday, August 5, at 7 p.m. in Park West. The concert is part of the Pepsi Challenge Summer Fest Series. The evening's activities will include lots of music by the Beach Boys as well as appearances by Dick Nourse and KSL meteorologist and Dick Nourse concert chairman Kent Norton.
