The competition was held at Lehi High School with LuRue with deep gray sandals. Janet and Jolene are students of Sally Skidmore, sewing instructor at Lehi High School. Alternates for the state competition were Valyn Watkins and Wendy Powell. Valyn's beautiful outfit was stitched of medium brown tweed with box pleats in the slightly A line skirt, a vest and blazer. Each detail was meticulously tailored with bound buttonholes and was fully lined. Valyn wore mink brown accessories with her outfit. She is the daughter of Raman and Janine Watkins. Wendy Powell, a daughter of Bill and Kaye Powell looked lovely in a blue blazer and matching plaid skirt She wore a navy sweater vest, hat and shoes as accessories. The sewing was beautifully done with bound buttonholes and other hand tailoring details. The three top winners will represent the district which comprises the north end of Utah County, in the state contest which will be held on January 7 in Salt Lake City. Each entry was beautifully done and was modeled by talented and pretty girls. There were 21 entries and the judges explained the difficulty in choosing winners of the many outstanding wool articles entered. vest, and blazer were fully lined with bound buttonholes. Her sewing teacher is Teresa Griffin. Jolene Sunderland, a senior at Lehi High School, modeled a prizewinning dress of 100 percent wool challis with rust piping details. A dainty ruffle encircled a deep yoke and sleeve plackets. A rust piping set off the ruffle detail. Jolene also decorated the slightly gathered skirt with a design drawn work. She learned the details from a exchange student last summer. Jolene is a daughter of Boyd and Joy Sunderland, Lehi. Janet Bateman, daughter of LaVar and Lornell Bateman, and a junior at Lehi High School continued a family tradition by winning a top spot in the annual contest. Janet's outfit was fashioned of a soft gray wool blazer teamed with a plaid skirt. A cluster of knife pleats was a designer touch and hid a short slash on the side front of the straight skirt. Janet used a soft gray suede leather detail on the sleeve plackets and pockets.
