El Closeouf Continues CHURCH-Memof the Stan Lewis family took seriously the Lehi Stake's ber invitation not to drive their car to church services last Sunday. They rode in a pony cart built by Mr. Lewis and pulled by "old dobbin." Handling the reins is Mrs. Stan.(Peggy) Lewis, with Lisa on the left, and Susan on the right. THIS IS THE WAY WE GO TO CHURCH, GO TO f ll 1 LEHI Lehi Stake meeting house parking lots looked pretty empty and abandoned Sunday, June 24, but the inside of the buildings bustled with usual Sunday attendance making the Stake-wid- e "Empty Parking Lot Sunday" a huge success. Before and after meetings, sidewalks were crowded with families and large groups of friends and neighbors walking together; streets were busy with bicycles for those who had longer distances to go; and fences around the Stake Center and 1st, 6th and 13th Wards served as hitching posts for those who used horses and horse-drive- n carriages to get to church. Ward Activity Committees had signs posted in parking lots reminding those who brought cars to drive back home, leave their cars and find some other means of transportation. The 13th Ward even had girls stationed throughout their meeting house lot issuing parking tickets to those who forgot. Everyone seemed to enjoy this special Sunday and many who walked for the first time commented on how was nice it seemed. In fact, the activity's 'carry-ove- r' excellent for the Fifth Ward as they had 80 percent of their ward walking to church the following Sunday (July 1). On the 17 the Fifth Ward had 53 cars and no bicycles in their parking lot but on June 24 they had only 13 cars and as many as 25 bicycles. The Second Ward had only two cars in their parking lot the whole day, June 24, making them the ward using the least amount of gasoline and the 13th ward will undoubtedly receive a prize (a bale of hay) for having nine horses hitched to the fence around their church.
