New Clubhouse Fitting iniation of the new constructed by the clubhouse, Lehi Riding Club, was the "Ladies" Night banquet, held in the new building, last Thursday evening. Harold W. Barnes served as master of ceremonies for the affair at which western entertainment was furnished by the popular musical and singing group from Brighom Young University. Evans cafe catered the banquet which was served at three long tables decorated with daffodills. There were 56 present, including Mr. and' Mrs. Russell Innes as special guests. The committee in charge included Dean Wilcox, chairman; Russon, David Roberts, Warren Morris Clark, Reed Roberts, Don Whimpey, George Ricks and Noy Christofferson. Visitors Welcome The clubhouse is now practically completed except for a few minor details and some of the kitchen equipment. Built of cinder block, it is finished inside with knotty pine and an accoustic ceiling. Included in the building which measures 35 by 55 feet, are the large club, room, lounges and a complete kitchen, everything modern, with gas appliances and of 150 for banquets and nace. It will nicely accomodate a larger crowd for dances. Local clubs and organizations are invited to make appointments to tour the building which was designed with a view to accommodate parties and gatherings of all types of local groups. Landscaping and plantings will be added this spring. George Carson is the current club president of the colorful group which comprises members from all walks of life and which aids annually in staging the authentic Lehi Roundup rodeo production. gs - 'it Press Deadline ! Place to Raise a Family Recommendations in regard to a new high school site for Lehi will be given by I. Dale Despain, Utah County Planning engineer, at a special meeting to be held Friday at 7:30 p. m. in the Lehi Elementary School auditorium, according to George Bone School Board member. All persons interested in the school site problem are urged to attend the meeting and hear Mr. Despain's report on the pros and cons of the various sites which have been under consideration in this community. Mr. Despain was recently asked by the School Board to prepare a map showing the exact locations of the different sites, and to prepare a comprehensive list of the advantages and disadvantages of each site. His report will be submitted to the School Board to aid that body in making a final decision. The planning engineer is expected to report on the advantages and disadvantages of each location from the viewpoint of the City, School Board, general public and student population, as well as any construction problems which might be encountered. Monday Meeting The problem of a school site for Lehi has been included in the agenda for the regular School Board meeting Monday night, March 21, at the District Office in American Fork. At that time the Board will wait on any committees or individuals who have recommendations or opinions to express on the matter, or who wish to bring out information not included in Mr. Despain's reports Mr. Bone reports that a final decision on the school site will probably be made in the near future. The School Board has definitely decided to go ahead on construction of Senior High Schools, rather than Junior High Schools in American Fork, Lehi and Pleasant Grove. A letter to the school board recommending the east .site was of the signed by all members school council at a recent meeting Firemen Ask City Aid on Fire Station Fire Chief John Broadbent and Afton Giles, assistant chief, met with the City Council Monday night to discuss plans for a new fire station. Chief Broadbent reported that the department now has approx$500 imately the firemen, and declared that they intend to proceed with a fire station as soon as finances cer-- mit in the Firemen's fund, and members of the department are contributing part of their earnings toward the fund, with the hope that it may soon be used as a starter for the fire station. The firemen asked City Council cooperation in sponsoring a Fireman's Ball in the near future to raise additional money for the fund. Tentative plans call for a dance sometime after Easter, with an entertainment and cake sale at intermission. Councilmen expressed their appreciation for the fine attitude of Kathleen Evans To Reign Over City-Coun- ty Military Ball Miss Kathleen Evans, daughter of Mrs. Karl R. Evans, will reign as queen of the Lehi National Guard Company B at the first annual Military Ball, March 25 at the Appollo Dance Hall in Amerl can Fork. - ' -- r.j-- f , ' - - r 5 1 Discusses The summer program and a new hospital were the topics of discussion at a Health Council meeting Monday night. Adith Southwick, presided at the session in the absence of Carlos Coates, chairman, who was called away. Council members hope to get the program in operation earlier this year than last, and also will seek to have the city maintain a close check on the spray mixture and the program as a whole. n, , JLL, W KATHLEEN . EVANS Miss Evans was selected as queen to represent the Lehi unit at the ball, which will be sponsored jointly by units of Lehi and American Fork. Miss Barbara Pulley will reign as queen of the American Fork company. A senior at Lehi High School, Miss Evans is a cheerleader, member of the Boosters Club, F. H. A. organization, and school chorus. She is a graduate of Lehi L. D. S. Seminary and teaches Primary in the Sixth Ward. She is also Stake Junior Gleaner president (Continued on Inside Page) , Mr. Broadbent asked the Council to consider the possibility of applying Lehi's share of the Utah County Fire Fund towards a new station, and assured the city officials that the firemen are ready to help on construction of a new station. Mayor Frank Sharp urged Mr. Broadbent to work with Hugh Otterson and Harold Westring of the fire committee, and Rex. Zimmerman and Lynn Webb o"f the finance committee, in working out some feasible method of financing a new station. " Weed Eradication Mayor Sharp reported that Lehi can have the benefits of the county's weed eradication program again this year. The county will provide a man and spraying equipment if the city will provide the spray material and a man to assist Meeting Lehi City officials have been Invited to attend a meeting of all city and county officials of Utah county, March 24 in Provo. Purpose of the meeting is to improve public relations between the various governing bodies and to work out mutual problems. The meeting will be held at 8 p. m. in the county commission chambers. Deseret Chemical In response to letters sent by the Lehi City Council to Utah congressmen protesting the removal of Deseret Chemical facilities to the Tooele Ordnance De--p- ot letters have been received from Senators Arthur V. Watkins and Wallace Bennett, and Congressman Henry Dixon. The letters thanked the council members for their interest in the matter and pointed out that only the headquarters will be moved to Tooele. No jobs will be affected by the change in administration, and Deseret Chemical will con tinue it's operation. Congressman William A. Dawson also wrote to the council and sent a copy of the complete investigation report of Deseret Chemical.
