I didn't do enough ghoulish celebration. Autumn is traditionally a very eerie and mysterious time of year, and if you really want a good party before the Thanksgiving spirit catches up to you and you have to feel happy and cheerful again (I never feel too cheerful on Thanksgiving; mostly, I feel bloated), then these are just the videos for you. The Rocky Horror Picture Show Directed by Jim Sharman Produced by Lou Adler, Michael White Written by Richard O'Brien Music by Richard O'Brien Starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Richard O'Brien, Patricia Quinn, Charles Gray, Meatloaf, Peter Hinwood CBSFox Video must admit, was a "virgin." Depending on a Rocky Horror fan's definition of "virgin," I might still be one. It will be a dilemma for most Rocky maniacs as to whether persons who have only seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show on video are "virgins" or not. Probably not. Seeing this film for the first time on video answers a lot of questions for me. I mean a lot. My friends in high school for the most part were not Rocky fans, but the few that were always puzzled me. It is amazing just I D. I how much Rocky Horror has influenced American teen society. The story of this film is simple: Brad and Janet, two young people in love, go to visit their favorite scientist but get a flat tire on the way. They walk to the nearest castle, which is a inhabited by Dr. Frank-n-Furte- r, scientist who is mad-transvesti- te creating a tanned buffed monster to be his love slave. Got it? The Rocky Horror Picture Show has many things going for it. The film exudes energy at a very high rate. Kilovolts of electricity arc out of the screen as Tim Curry, playing Dr. dances around in bustier, panties, garter belt, and Frank-n-Furte- r, fishnet stockings, while the rest of the cast prance about in their underwear. The music of The Rocky Horror Picture Show is also a great asset to this film. Richard O'Brien who plays Riff Raff in the film is tso the mastermind behind such classic songs as 'Time Warp" and "Tatatatatata Touch Me" which make The Rocky Horror Picture Show so dang good. The video of Rocky Horror comes with added footage of Rocky Horror mania with shots of those wacky people who dress up and go out to the show every Saturday night. It really helps the atmosphere and the excitement of the film on the tape. It would be in your best interests to rent this film, to organize a big party to go along with it. Get some lively people together, as this is not the video to sit through on your hands. See it on a big screen TV too. Shock Treatment Directed by Jim Sharman By Emily M. At the age of 20, he corresponded with Diego Rivera, and was consequently invited to study with him in Mexico City. He became like a son to Rivera, and assisted the artist in his famous mural paintings. Rivera was a mentor for Pablo in politics and painting. He finally left Rivera to pursue his own path, and became a "cultural missionary" for the Mexican government, wherein he brought art education and social services to remote areas. He was suspended when he organized a strike against U.S. mine owners. He accepted a scholarship at the Academy of Art in Moscow, and studied there for a year, yet was discouraged by the repressive atmosphere. He convinced instructors to allow him to work independently. This time, the creative team behind Rocky Horror has, instead of striking gold, struck dirt. Nothing in Shock Treatment is even remotely as exciting and fresh as Rocky Horror. The only difference is, Shock Treatment has better production values. I want to say something good about this video, but I can't. So I will tell you the plot. Brad and Janet are back, but this time played by Jessica Harper and Cliff DeYoung. They go on a TV game show called 'Marriage Maze' with obnoxious host Bert Snick (Barry Humphries). Brad is committed to the Denton TV hospital 'Dentonvale' while uie evil Farley Flavors turns Throughout the rest of this muddled video, Brad and Janet are played like marionettes while a myriad of production numbers are going on around them. This movie reminds me of A Boy and His Dog, the cult sci-- film starring Don Johnson. The two films have the same sort of Stepford quality. Hey there's another film that this reminds me of, The Stepford Wives. The musical numbers in Shock Treatment are also bad. Compared to 'Time Warp," the song "Denton" lacks something, though I'm not sure what. fi would only recommend Shock Treatment for the truly deranged Rocky Horror fan. It is a curiosity, I nothing more.
