"The purpose of the questionnaire is to suggest that the College of Science might play an increased role in their enterprise, supplying lists of recent graduates, lists of researchers and their area of expertise, and announcements of visiting lecturers," said Jana Baumann, director of development at the U. College of Science. As a result of the questionnaire, students could benefit from local businesses that get involved with the department, said Baumann. One on the questions asks businesses questionnaire of the whether they would like to find out ahead of time "who our graduates are going to be," she said. While the bill doesn't require the regents to do anything they wouldn't do anyway, it poses the problem of equating the admission requirements at all of the institutions, he added. Elements of the regents' higher education master plan exist so that different levels of admissions across the state allow students with various intellectual abilities to find and attend institutions that meet their needs, he explained. House Bill 156, requiring the director of an institution's largest staff association and president of the could have a positive impact on the job market, according to Baumann. Many Salt Lake area businesses already recruit and hire U. graduates into their companies. But many other companies might be interested in graduates as well. The questionnaire also includes questions about possible internships and part-tim- e jobs for College of Science students. Baumann hopes that industrial businesses become aware of U. science students and what the college has to offer. The College of Science advisory questionnaire. The general public and perhaps the industrial community as well are not aware of the quality and the efforts of the U. science departments in many scientific areas, said Peter Stang, chairman of the chemistry department. Establishing a strong bond with the industrial community is one of the boards major concerns. The College of Science needs to cooperate with the local industry as an approach to board members, who authored the questionnaire, intended to poll a number of businesses in the Salt Lake area.
