Show Sports Here and There by Al Ablett How many people have asked me how do you think Fullmer will come out this time with Robinson. Ro-binson. I will take this time to tell the world I think he will beat Robinson easier this time than he did the last time. Robinson Robin-son will try because he needs the money. Like most of the big time fighters he is in hock to Uncle Sam. That is the one thing I asked Jenson about. Marv said, "AL we are in the clear after every fight". So I don't think Gene will ever find himself in this nredirament As I have said many times, there should be some way of spreading the athletics tax burden. bur-den. A fighter at most has no more than ten years, a ball player play-er in the big money not many more. Basketball and football is much shorter, tennis looks like about three years at the top, and golf is a little longer. But of course that is something for the powers that be will have to take care of. But back to the Fullmer-Robinson Fullmer-Robinson fight, you can put your money on whichever man you think will win and rest assured that you will get a fair shake for your dough. The big leagues are off and running and everyone connected with the game expects a great year. The Yankees are again the favorites to take the American League with Detroit the most improved team. The Yanks are again loaded with talent but a great many things can happen in 154 games. The White Sox need power and the Cleveland Indians need speed. The rest of the league lea-gue needs everything. The National is a different story. Here there is any one of five or six clubs that could go all the way. Milwaukee has a well rounded ball club with great pitching. Their only weakness is at second base. Brooklyn is again depending on their old pros to carry the load. With Johnny Padres back they should get good pitching. It is just a question of the oldsters holding . up, they won't beat themselves. The Cincinnati Reds have power to burn and a great defensive defen-sive club. If the Reds get pitching pitch-ing they could win going away. Pittsburgh has a great young club, and I . think they have enough poise to finish in the first division. A great outfield and in Owen Friend one of the best pitchers in baseball. The Phis and St. Louis have problems prob-lems as does the Giants. The Cubs just need a ball club. But regardless of who wins the fans are in for a great summer. See you next week. Al |
