Mom didn't teach her to cook, she said. "We fumble together." Being an only sister, Julie has plenty of opportunity to wash the dishes. "She thinks even if she doesn't do all the cooking she does all the dishes even though she really doesn't," Mrs. Reid insists. Eight maybe? Well, seven out of eight isn't bad. This week's good cook, Mrs. Merle Reid of Tremonton, managed those odds in giving birth to her eight children all of whom except one are boys. Actually the boys are one of the reasons the Reid's got into the dairy business. Mrs. Reid's husband, J. Wayne, ran a business in Salt Lake City but seven sons seemed like a good reason to find a farm. That, plus the fact that Mr. Reid was raised on a farm in a small community in southern Colorado. "The boys are geared to helping their dad here on the farm where in the city you could get them to help with the dishes a little," Mrs. Reid said. Six of the seven boys are still at home while Shawn, 20, is on a mission to Italy. The Reids will be able to converse with guests in three foreign languages when Shawn returns. Scott, 23, the oldest, speaks French thanks to an LDS mission in France. And David speaks Spanish learned during a mission to Columbia, South America. Other boys in the family include Kevin, 18. who graduates from high school this ,year; Matthew, 15, Richard 14, and Douglas, 10. . Oh yes, there's also July, 17, the girl of the family. "Julie is my side kick," Mrs. Reid said, don't know what I would do without her." Which is easier to raise, boys or girls' Wayne would rather raise the boy ariyday," she said. "Girls are .always planning.. they've always got something going. Music seems to be the central them in the Reid household. Mrs. Reid says she loves music but doesn't do any of it herself. "Maybe that's why I Drodded mv kids " she added.
