We talked about the different kinds of material and how to wash it if it needs to be washed. Next week we are going to cut our practice pieces. The group of 10 or 12 meets Tuesday evenings at the high school band room. The mother of five children, Mrs. Johnson said she doesn't find it too difficult being a working mother. Her four girls pitch in at home and "are just as capable as me if not more," she said. The girls include Lynda, a ninth grader; Julie, a seventh grader; Marianne, fourth grader; Jeri Lee, kindergarten. Somewhere a boy broke into that solid lineup of girls. Mrs. Johnson has worked most of her married life spending the last three years as a medical assistant to Dr. Duane Kerr. Just "meeting the people" and being around them is one of the benefits of the job, she said. Sewing is another activity that attracts Mrs. Johnson's attention. A hobby and a necessity, she does a lot of sewing for her girls and has taught them the art as well. She actually gave sewing classes for three years before going to work for Dr. Kerr and gave sewing lessons and sold machines for ZCMI at one point. Mrs. Johnson is also a talented artist. She enjoys sketching and painting preferring landscapes over still life. Church work keeps both she and her husband busy. She is a counselor in the Sixth Ward Relief Society which, luckily, meets on her day off from work. She to her visiting get manages duties done on that same day or on Sunday afternoons. She has also worked in the MIA organization. And, she and her husband, Merrill, were young Married's Directors when they first moved into the ward. Both husband and wife hail from Fillmore, Utah.
