Answers & By Ray Reese How does an insurance salesman answer the young married man who wants to know how much life Insurance he ought to carry ? A. The objective should be to leave dependents in the same relative economic position they would have enjoyed had the insured person survived. That means something less than the income they had when he was alive, because his own costs were included. But a logical objective should be to provide family income, including Social Security survivorship benefits, in a range of 60 to 75 per cent of the breadwinner's gross pay at the time of his death.
