In addition to the historical pageant and the Great West Fair, the Festival of the American West has several other activities for visitors to the USU campus. Among these are an Old West Cookout, one of the most popular attractions of last year's Festival, three productions by USU's Old Lyric Repertory Company; an open house and demonstration of pioneer farming at the Ronald V. Jensen Living Historical Farm; and one of America's came finest exhibitions of watercolor paintings. RONALD JENSEN FARM Ronald V. Jensen Living Historical Farm, located on highway 89 approximately six miles south of Logan, has arranged for an open house each day from ten to twelve a.m. Monday through Friday. The Farm is being developed to depict Utah farming at the turn of the century with exhibits and live demonstrations. Incorporated into the Farm is the Man and His Bread Museum. WATERCOLOR WEST The sixth annual Watercolor West, an extensive collection of watercolor paintings, features the works of 52 artists and will be on display throughout the Festival of the American West. "The show is the most important watercolor exhibit in the Intermountian West," claims Dr. Twain Tippetts, director of the USU Library Gallary, which houses the show. The artists have been selected from the American Watercolor Society, and Watercolor USU exhibits shown during the year. The paintings range from caricature and nostalgia through contemporary, with more collage and acrylic paintings included in this year's collection of OLD WEST COOKOUT scheduled Festival. The Cookout, which combines the heartiest traditions of pioneer eating, is held under the spreading trees on Old Main Hill in a pastoral and beautiful setting. The meal is served the cold foods in picnic pioneer-stylbaskets, the hot items direct from the open flames, the waiters and waitresses in pioneer costume. The Cookout menu reflects the many cultural influences which shaped the Great West.
