Myron J. Hansen, Beaver Dam, has served the members of his ward as an active scouter fpr the past 35 years, with the exception of two years, when he was not registered as scouter or committeeman. The first scout troop was organized in the Beaver Dam Ward April 17, 1929. The troop met in the basement of the old school house and maintained a well equipped meeting place. Mr. Hanson was selected scoutmaster with Frank Durfcy as assistant. Bishop R. A. Johnson signed the charter as institutional representative. The troop committee consisted of Robert J. Potter, Joseph A. Erickson, Joseph H. Bowcutt and Thomas Y. Simmons. Members of the first troop included, Ellis Y. Johnson, J. Durrell Erickson, Kenneth J. Erickson, Dean Erickson, William Bowen, Lawrence Bowen, Durald Bowen, Ray Watkins and Merrell Packer. All members of the troop are still living except Kenneth J. Erickson. Another outstanding record is that every boy of scout age in the ward has been registered, and the troop has been active over the 35 year period. In 195C only one boy was eligible to take scouting, but the orwas continued to ganization serve him. At present the ward has enrolled six explorers and seven scouts, some of whom are sons of members of the first troop..
