Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Smith and daughter Brielle returned from Minnesota where Kelly has been coaching at a college there. They will make their home in Cedar City for the present time. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hickman and family of St. George; Mr. and Mrs. Hal Hickman and family of Flagstaff, Arizona; Josephine Patterson and family of Nevada and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren were attendance for the funeral of Samuel Hickmar who passed away in St. George this past week. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Baker had their daughter Carol Black and family of Washington Utah spend the week-en- d with them. 'Kathleen Farnsworth is recuperating at the home of her son Bill of Ixgan. All of her children except Lynn who is in Germany have visited her. CA Foundation scholarships are designed to promote agriculture and agribusiness by encouraging young people to stay in rural areas and choose careers that will serve these areas. Eligibility is based on the desire to further a career in agriculture or agribusiness or in a profession which serves the rural area rather than on a financial need. He headed the develops ent of the first Municipal golf couise in Southern Utah at Beaver, and the continuing growth of horse racing in Southern Utah. He enjoyed tne outdoors and was an active sports enthusiast.. He was a member of the I. :.S. Church. Thomson was born in Ephraim, Utah, October 26, 1903 to Daniel H. and Karen K. Christensen Thomson. He died February 20, 1988 in Salt Lake City. He graduated from Snow College in Ephraim and from the B.Y.U. Music was his whole life. His career of teaching began in Myton, Utah, then at Price Junior High, Burley, Idaho High School, Beaver, Utah High School and Midvale Junior High School. He was music supervisor for Jordan School District for 23 years, prior to his retirement. He sang with the Tabernacle Choir for 18 years and with the Utah Symphony Chorale. He was a member of the Wasatch Symphony, Westminster Concert Band, Golden Years Orchestra and the Salt Lake City Mail Carriers Band. He was actively involved in the Young Audiences Music Program at the time of his death. He married Mae Jenson and is survived by her and three children, Richard S. Thomson, Oceanside, Elna California; Kuhimann, Hanover, New Hampshire; Dorothy deLespinasse, Ias Vegas, Nevada; three also by eight brothers, one sister, Ralph D. Thomson, Salt Lake City; Lincoln Thomson, Tokyo, Japan; Dr. Woodruff Thomson, Provo. Utah and Dorothy Jonas, Salt l.ake City. He was born in Beaver, Utah on November 4, 1915 to John and Emma Cartwright Atkin. He married Clara Finlinson on May 27, 1941 and she preceded him in death in 1982. He graduated from Utah State University in 1939 with a B.S. Degree in Agricultural Economics. Upon graduation he worked for the Farmers Home Administration of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture in Price, Utah; Richfield, Utah; Cedar City, Utah and Phoenix, Arizona until 1959. He moved to Phoenix in 1956 and resided in Prescott since 1962 when he served as branch of First manager and National Bank of Arizona. Mr. Atkin was an area for the bank when he retired in 1985 after 26 years of service. During World War II he served as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy and as a Lt. in the Korean War. He was a High Priest in the L.D.S. Church and served many position of church service. He was active in many civic and charitable organizations in Prescott, including serving as President and Director of the Yavapai Community Hospital, President and Director of the Yavapai College Foundation, Director of the Prescott Chamber of Commerce. President and District Governor of the Prescott Kiwanis Club. Director of the Grand Canyon Council of the Boy Scouts of America and Chairman of the United Way. is survived He three by daughters, Mrs. James (Jane; Pex-to- n of Nephi, Utah; Mrs. George (Clara Joi Headley of Phoenix.
