Joseph Diamond toured Hill's Small Business offices and met the people who work there. "I feel it's important to meet the people who are part of the small business infrastructure so I can hear from them and they can meet me," said Diamond. "We've outlined an aggressive strategy to meet small business people and find what issues they are facing. I've been to a number of bases already and what I've found most rewarding is the total dedication people have in the department." Small businesses account for approximately 50 percent of the gross domestic product, according to Diamond, and are essential partners in America's defense industry. "This is not a social welfare program. Small businesses account for about 15 percent of the money spent directly," said Diamond. "Where small business is really felt is in subcontracting. Many of the large corporations subcontract out to small businesses and we've become aggressive in our contracts to include wording that ensures small businesses are considered a!
