The eight personnel assigned serviced 2.53 aircraft during the past year. Weather 8-1- As part of the global Air Force program, we are refocusing our efforts on the war fighter. Weather at Hill AFB took place about a month ago, and AFB. Ariz., now is responsible for issuing our official forecast. This responsibility shift involves issuing the official forecast, commonly referred to as a Terminal Area Forecast, and issuDavis-Montha- ing weather watches, warnings, and advisories. So what's the weather station's function now? The forecasters can focus on the wartime mission, meaning they narrow their focus and provide the best possible weather support to the 388th Fighter Wing Fighter Squadrons. The forecaster's responsibility is to take the official forecast, issued by and tailor it to the needs of the flying mission. For example, the Hill AFB forecast only states that there will be scattered clouds at 2,(KX) ft; but the Hill forecasters will forecast the information into F-1-6 Davis-Montha- Si TVTUV KADXT k Friday ic:oo m A.M.-8:o- P.M, o Tvtv Mutton Hollow Rd. 169 E. l f ', i ? Hill forecasters, now referred to as a Combat Weather Team, are also using more advanced software such as Tactical AcquisiSoftware and Night Vision Goggle Operations Weather tion Software that help pilots in their bombing campaigns. Weather criteria such as temperature, humidity, winds, sun angle, moon angle and illumination can influence a pilot's ability to put bombs on target, and the forecasters can now concentrate on this advanced software to improve Hill AFB's wartime capability. Flight Records Flight records, known as Host Aviation Resource Management, tracks and updates aircrew flight data to ensure the aircrew's flight history are accurate so pilots and navigators have access to and are qualified for specific duties. They also ensure that aircrew are qualified for and receive their appropriate flight pay and bonuses. This service is provided for all aircrew assigned to Hill AFB. Today and tomorrow We in the OSS are extremely busy supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. With manning levels to support 6 hours per day operations, we operated around the clock for several weeks following the Sept. 1 1 incidents, effectively doubling our normal airfield hours. When we haven't been 247. we have been supporting many aircraft after normal hours. I'm very proud of everyone in the squadron; from the Contractors, to Civil Service, to the Military. They've all stepped up to the plate, and have performed impressively these past two months. As we look towards the future, we will be continuing support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and are heavily involved in the planning and support of the 2X)2 Winter Olympics. Our Weather flight is playing a lead role in the combined military-civiliaweather operations for the games, and our Airfield Operations Flight is helping with security planning. We have the right people in the right place to proudly serve our country in whatever role we are tasked. 6 8am -- iyiVi'.WN.'.ffrffi 5pm INC. PAY YOUR NEXT PAYCHECK TODAY!
