"Now, it is only once a year and many worthy causes benefit." At the halfway point of Hill AFB's Combined Federal Campaign, we Another individual commented that have recorded a grand total of $397,722 in contributions, which includes $5.77 raised by organizations for disaster relief. That puts us at approximately 51 percent of our $785,000 goal. Already, seven organizations have surpassed their fair share goal, while 14 others, out of a total of 50 installation-wide, are at or above 50 percent in contributions toward their respective goals. The CFC and the agencies it helps support provide assistance to many military members, civilians and their families. It's rewarding that Team Hill demonstrates so much generosity. During these trying times, it is more important than ever to diligently sup- port and contribute to this drive. It is interesting and informative to hear the comments made by some of the participants. The commander of one organization said he began this campaign at one of his commander's calls by providing information about what it was like before the CFC was started. this is a time for leadership and that the CFC is notable because one's rank or grade doesn't distinguish the leaders. It is simply participa- tion. Another said she felt fortunate to be able to help those in need because they are faced with difficult situations any of us could be and in some cases are struggling to deal with. Many who have contributed feel their contributions are an ideal way to "give back" to the outstanding community they are a part of. One person commented that she designates her contributions to go to a health organization because it helps one of her family members. She added that when this problem arose and her family requested help, the CFC organization providing the assistance didn't ask how much they had contributed; the organization simply provided vital assistance. Vehicle decals help ensure security by Master Sgt. Mark Hanrion 59 High 39 Low Partly cloudy 75th Security Forces Squadron Everyone who has received a vehicle registration decal has read or should have read the rules as outlined on the accountability-certificationotice. The notice details the registration and deregistration procedures for vehicles on Hill AFB, and signing the adjoining roster, as required, means you will abide by these rules. The basic requirements, as outlined in the Hill Supplement to AFI "Air Force Motor Vehicle Traffic Supervision," include: Privately-ownevehicles of assigned military personnel will be registered within 10 duty days after arrival on base. The POVs of assigned civilian employees will be registered within 10 duty days after being hired. POVs purchased after assignment to the base will be registered within three duty days after registration requirements are met. When ownership of a POVis transferred, the previous owner will remove the DD Form 2220, return it to the 75th SFSSFOXI and deregister the vehicle. The new owner will follow the registration procedures. Failure to comply with base vehicle registration or deregistration requirements can result up to a revocation of base driving privileges. Decals don't peel off in one easy pull, the AFPN article said, and are specifically designed to break apart as an device. 'Open season' allows changes in TSP plan by Sandy Pistoia Civilian Personnel Division Employees planning retirement and finding a shortfall in funds can make up that difference by enrolling in the Thrift Savings Plan. TSP Open Season, from Nov. 31, is the period when employees may begin con15-Ja- n. tributing, change the contribution amount and allocate the investment of future contributions each pay period. The TSP is a "defined contribution plan." The retirement income received from the TSP account depend on how much the employee and the employee's agency, for FERS have contributed to the account employees while working and the earnings on those contributions. The contributions made are voluntary and are separate from contribu- - tions to FERS Basic Annuity or CSRS Annuity. Effective this open season, FERS employees may contribute up to 12 percent, with 5 percent government matching contributions (when eligible), while CSRS employees may contribute up to 7 percent with no matching funds. There are two tax benefits to investing in the TSP. First, TSP contributions are deducted from pay before taxes are computed, so less tax is paid now. Second, taxes on contributions and attributable earnings are deferred until the money is withdrawn. Early career investment in a TSP account is important FERS employees receive agency matching contributions and the longer the contributions stay in the account the more the employee gains through the "miracle of compounding." Any portion of the account can be invested in the five investment funds: The Web site, www.afpc.randolph.af.mil BESTGRBEBIS.htm, can be accessed around the clock, and Sundays Monday-S- G Fund (Government Securities) aturday from a.m. Central Standard Time.
