Johnny knows that you can't get something for nothing. That it is only thru that you win life's battles. Returning to Helper the other day from the worlds fair in Chicago where the Carbon County high school band won national honors and he won first place on the f luegel horn, Johnny decided it was time for him to attend the band music school at the USAC. Johnny Hops a Freight But Johnny's purse looked like the elephant had stepped on it. The trip to Chicago had almost depleted it. Was Johnny to go in debt for a ticket from Helper to Logan? Not much! With his horn under his arm, Johnny boarded an empty freight car pulling north out of Helper early Tuesday morning. At Salt Lake City he boarded another empty freight car going north and early Wednesday morning he awoke just in time to see Cache Junction painted over a railroad station. "This is the place" Johnny thot as he disembarked from his boxcar bedroom. But there were not trains for some time going toward Logan. So with the tower of the main USAC building as his guiding star, Johnny trudged along the highway from Cache Junction to Logan. The horn he tightly clasped to his side. He arrived on the campus about Wednesday noon and now is drinking in the words of music-wisdofalling from the lips of Professor A. R. McAllister. s The Glorious Fourth Is Here! ing musicians of the country. He is good now, but he wants to be a whole lot better. Johnny will be one of the best musicians of the nation if he continues along the line he is now following. If he doesn't, then he'll just be another horn tooter, that's SWISS IMPORTED Buy Your Quality Meats and Groceries From Our Store and Save Dollars pound Some day Johnny Cook of Helper is going to be one of the lead- CHEESE E3 tut ,irTrtil3 f&T-"- - - kL weiistem (From Ixtgan Newspaper) H i TP Helper, Carbon County, Utah, Friday, June 29, 1933 '"m o em fir YOUR IOME-OWNL- I Yice DRUG STORE |
