The Transportation Division is about to find out. On May 2, quarter-to- n to 1 trucks, telephone maintenance trucks and pickups will be evaluated inside and out to see which are in the best condition. Judging will be from 8 a.m. to noon behind Bldg. 900. "This is a new program, mandated through the command, to improve the condition of the vehicle fleet and gain longer use. All AFMC (Air Force Materiel Command) bases will be doing this," said Jody Carson, Transportation Division chief of vehicle operations and maintenance. "We're taking vehicles that are more than two years old and judging them quarterly by type." The vehicles will be inspected for overall appearance, safety, battery corrosion, lights, tire pressure and wear, cleanliness, fluid levels, belts and hoses, exhaust systems, gauges, windshield wipers, horns, sirens and other details. The first judging will be by maintenance personnel to find those vehicles that have at least 80 percent compliance with maintenance standards. In the afternoon, Col. Larry Wheeler, 75th Air Base Wing commander, and Neil Hansen, Transportation Division chief, will take a second look and select first, second and third place winners. The first competition will include 90 vehicles. "The top three winners receive plaques and first place gets a traveling trophy," Carson said. "We encourage the organizations to give credit to the individuals who maintain the vehicles and give them other incentives." Plans are being made for an end of the year roll-bvehicles on inspection of all government-owne- d base. y )' "Now gel a load of the brakes!"
