Show 16 Hilltop Times April 25, 1996 uta linn Prioritizing tasks into ease of change vs. impact categories worth time spent on analysis by Richard Diehl Air Force Quality Office Will Rogers once said, "Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there." Hill AFB is right on track in improving processes and products; however, the base has to move faster so it doesn't get run over. The Hill workforce has always been proud of their innovations, productivity and the desire to improve. But, due to new technology, computers and a changing environment including downsizing and privatization, the expected rate of improvement is greater today than it was 20 or 30 years ago. Rube Goldberg (1883-1970was a satirist who used cartoons to poke fun at unnecessary complications. Webster's Dictionary defines him as "accomplishing by extremely complex roundabout means what actually or seemingly can be done simply." He depicted contraptions that accomplished the simplest tasks in the most complicated way. How many "Rube Gt.aberg" processes or systems are in organizations at Hill AFB? How can these processes be simplified or streamlined? Circumstances change, but people don't always change the way they do their jobs. A process is a group of sequential tasks that use resources to provide a product or service to internal or external customers. Everyone has a ), v product, and improvements to the process or product usually focus on the customer's perception of quality. These improvements may include increased productivity, reduced costs, shortened cycle times, eliminating rework and increased customer satisfaction. Since processes and systems can't all be improved at once, improvement opportunities are prioritized. The Impact and Changeability Analysis is a way to effectively prioritize by combining with the greatest impact and the easiest changes. 3 WE MAKE YOUR NEXT PAYDAY TODAY!
