Show 10 Hilltop Times April 21, 1994 inn)p)Dye The month of February was prosperous for many Hill AFB employees whose suggestions resulted in substantial savings for the Air Force and cash awards for the suggestors. The following employees received awards in February;1 Carol J. Wahlstrom and Mark A. Moulding, both aircraft electricians in the Aircraft Directorate, noted that the present method of routing the cables on the aircraft microwave landing system was extremely time consuming and caused severe chafing and cable damage. Wahlstrom and Moulding suggested a revised method of routing the cable which could be accomplished in less time without cable damage. The suggestion resulted in a savings of $13,603 to the Air Force. Wahlstrom and Moulding received a shared award of $1,208 for their suggestion. Anthony R. Villarruel, an aircraft mechanic in the Aircraft Directorate, noted that work documents allowed seven hours for the removal of old sealer from the vertical tail attach points on F?16 aircraft so it could be inspected for cracks. Villarruel believed the operation could be deleted entirely because completion of the vertical fin bulkhead repair eliminated the need to remove the sealer. The suggestion resulted in a savings of $29,783 to the Air Force and Villarruel received an award of $1,594. David D. Silvester and James N. Musselman, rubber equipment repairman, and Rex R. Palmer, rubber molder, all with the Technology and Industrial Support Directorate, suggested that the vent filler fitting on 0 aircraft fuel cells was separating due to high temperatures. Since no repair existed, the entire fuel cell was condemned. Silvester, Mussel-ma- n and Palmer developed a mold that allows repair or replacement of the access fitting and provides a secure and sealed fit. The suggestion resulted in savings of $667,850 to the Air Force. The three workers received a shared award of $6,539. Harold E. Weber, a heavy mobile equipment mechanic with the ICBM System Pronoted the condensor on the that Office, gram C-1- A-1- Silo-Base- $$$ feir eoirifD d Wear Your Summer Attire April 24th? 1 guidance control conditioning unit on the Peacekeeper missiles was sustaining damage during maintenance. The damage was to the threads securing the liquid level sight gauge to the receiver tank. When the sight gauge was damaged, the receiver tank had to be replaced, at a significant expense to the Air Force. Weber proposed a repair procedure that restores the threads to serviceable condition, saving the tank. A tangible savings to the Air Force of $16,324 was realized, and Weber received an award of $1,190. Benton C. Burroughs, an electronics mechanic; Jose A. Medina, an electronics worker in the Aircraft Directorate; and Enos G. Cummings, an electronics technician in the Technology and Industrial Support Directorate, developed a repair procedure for the TI transformer. The 6 APG66 Radar System is powered by the pressure vessel assembly. One of the main components of the power supply is the TI transformer. Burroughs, Medina and Cummings noted that due to the high voltages present, all of the. wiring is tightly secured to the frame of the transformer by lacing cord. However, the insulation on the high voltage wiring was sometimes worn through by the cord, causing arcing in the unit. When this happened, the technical order directed total replacement of the transformer at a significant expense to the Air Force. The repair procedure the three workers implemented has produced tangible savings of $28,118. Burroughs, Medina and Cummings received a shared award of $1,544.
