Show 10 Hilltop Times April 22, 1993 Transition benefits now offered with VSI RANDOLPH AFB, Texas (AFNS) Benefits previously offered only to Special Separation Benefit recipients are also available to Voluntary Separation Incentive recipients, personnel officials said. The fiscal 1993 National Defense Authorization Act provided for the expanded offering of benefits. The Transition Assistance Management Program provides benefits for people separating from the Air Force. VSISSB transition benefits include: D Two years of commissary, exchange and theater privileges. Use of other morale, welfare and recreation facilities is at the discretion of the installation commander. However, former Air Force members living in a foreign country may lose their exchange and commissary privileges because of treaties, status of forces agreements or military base agreements between the United States and host countries. D 120 days of extended medical care, CHAMPUS and treatment in uniformed service facilities. The 120 days of extended care will begin on the date of separation. VSI and SSB recipients will have the same priority as active-dut- y family members for medical services. People can also get 18 months of medical coverage, which includes conditions, with the purchase of conversion health Personnel presents briefings Wednesday at theater the fiscal Personnel Division on the Briefings by Military 994 reduction programs will be presented ot the base theater on Wednesday. Special procedures for applying for these programs will be discussed and questions taken. Attendees will probably want to take notes, so it is recommended they bring a paper and pencil. The schedule follows: 8 a.m or 1 p.m. Officer promotion enhancement, for all Air Force Materiel Command line officers. 9 a.m. or 2 p.m. Fiscal 1994 force reduction programs, for all officers and enlisted members assigned to or TDY to Hill. All officers and enlisted members who meet the following criteria should attend the force reduction programs briefing. 1 Officers Those eligible for VSISSB are all line majors and lieu(pi (pilots, WSOs); tenant colonels, except: BA chance to enroll in the Montgomery GI Bill. Members who have not already enrolled for educational benefits under the Montgomery GI Bill can pay a $1,200 lump sum which entitles them to one month of benefits for each full month served on active duty, or 36 months, whichever is less. If benefits have been received under the Veterans Education and Assistance Programs, the combined entitlement cannot exceed 48 months. D Travel entitlements and shipment of household goods to home of selection, regardless of years of service. D storage of household goods for one year, regardless of Non-tempora- pre-existi- fi XA yi vi ry years of service. irPfy tta,i v XX 7 1 I - I A -- t - I X X- 4 -- - t I XaX3S Those eligible for VSISSB are all senior airmen, ser- -' geants and staff sergeants who have a total Air Force military service date of Sept. 30, 1 977 or earlier, except those in medical and dental fields. Those eligible for early retirement are the same as those eligible for VSISSB. However, chief master sergeants are excluded, as are those with approved separation dates. These briefings are open to any military members who wont to attend. D Priority consideration over other equally qualified candidates for those who want to join an Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve unit. This benefit extends only one year beyond date of separation. Additionally, VSI recipients no longer have a mandatory offset if drawing Guard or Reserve pay; however, as with SSB, subse- quent retirement pay will offset until monies are entirely VSISSB recouped. Those eligible for early retirement are all deferred field grade line officers, chaplains and judge advocate members, except: those promoted below the promotion zone, unless subsequently deferred; line majors with dates of rank after May 31, 1993; those with approved separatlots, EWOs, WSOs); is at the discretion of the installation commander. Rental fee is basic allowance for quarters and variable .housing allowance for the member's grade and duty location. D Extension in Department of Defense Dependent Schools so children can finish 12th grade. The child must complete the 11th grade before member separates. the active-dut- y D Permissive temporary duty for job search or house hunting. People are allowed 20 days' permissive TDY from CONUS bases and 30 days from overseas bases, subject to mission requirements and unit commander's approval. The TDY can be taken all at one time or in increments, except in cases of disability retirement or disability separation. In those cases, time constraints dictate it must be taken in conjunction with terminal leave. D Permissive TDY for up to seven days to attend a transition assistance program seminar if one is not locally available, subject to mission requirements and unit commander's approval. B Transition services. This includes relocation assistance, job counseling, financial counseling and skills verification.
