On March 17, 1973, during his senior year at Bonneville High School, Ogden, he was injured in a skiing accident. Emergency surgery revealed that his spinal cord had been punctured, permanently rendering him a paraplegic. After surgery came the long, painful rehabilitation process and learning to cope with the challenges of his injury. At the time of his injury, he was high school student body president. He continued in this job until his ' graduation. Although doctors told him he would never walk again, with the aid of crutches and braces he walked across the stage with his graduating class and received his diploma. Mr. Chipp worked as a computer and attendoperator from 1975-198- 0 ed Weber State College, Ogden, at night to complete his accounting degree. A sports fanatic, Mr. Chipp is a member of the National Handicapped Sports and Recreation Association and enjoys basketball, baseball and skiing. He is a member of the Spokemasters wheelchair basketball team which has taken first place in many tournaments in Utah and Colorado. He has been selected to the all-stteam in each tournament. A member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America, he is the first handicapped person in Utah to become a certified instructor for the mono-sk- i. He said he is looking forward to the ski season and spending time on the slopes with his son, Eric. Mr. Chipp finds time to encourage others overcoming handicaps. He is currently working in the Stewart Rehabilitation Center and with the local ski resorts to set up a program to teach skiing to other disabled individuals. In an effort to give support to others with disabilities, he has visited many communities throughout the western self-proclaim- ed ar cant Achievement for improvement in the operation of the accounting and finance branch office. Mr. Chipp is also active in the community. He served as the treasurer of the Hill Adniinistrative Club for two years and director for two years.
