That's more than twice the number of deaths caused by cancer. In Utah, coronary heart disease was the cause ofover 2,900 deaths in 1987. That's 33 of all Utah deaths. At some point, heart disease will touch all of us, either directly or through someone we know. But the tragedy is not only in the loss of life, but the high price we all pay in lost time and service as well as medical and insurance payments. In 1987, Blue Cross and Blue Shield paid more than $15 million in heart disease related claims. A staggering number that affects all of us in higher insurance costs. But the high cost of heart disease can be greatly reduced.
