Hill 11, Logan 9. In the first game of the doubleheader, Hill outscored Logan, sparked by six-Rexhibition. Dellick also Davis' four-hi- t hit well, pounding out three hits including a double. Hill 13, Logan 9. In the nightcap game of the doubleheader, both teams remained even until the seventh inning. Hill racked up an unanswered four runs to win in the final inning. Dellick and Sahn Johnson each addediour RBIs, while May had two RBIs. ur three-for-thre- Cadet Davis had a big day at the plate July hitting for the cycle and leading Hill to an 11-- 9 victory over Logan in the first game of a doubleheader. Coach Craig Ewert raved about Davis' performance, calling it "a superior performance. You don't see the cycle very much. This is the only the second one I've seen in my four years at Hill." To achieve a cycle a player must hit a single, double, triple and a home run in the same game. Overall in the past week, the Falcons won four of their five games, the only loss coming at the j hands of Tremonton on July 11. Hill holds second place in the Northern Utah Baseball League with a record of 14-- Smithfield is 15-- 1 in the league. However, Ewert feels confident they can surpass their rivals. "Everyone we play tells us we're the best team in the Northern League and they can't understand why we can't beat Smithfield," Ewert said. Hill 12, Logan 10. Hill jumped out to an early lead, outscoring Logan 1 in the first three innings. Hill scored five more runs in the fourth with seven consecutive base hits. Hill had 15 hits and only two errors, while Logan stroked 12 hits and committed one error. It took a shoot-of- f to name Jim Acton of Ogden as champion of the doubles event at Sunday's Doubles and International Open at the Hill Rod and Gun , Club. ' After four rounds of regulation, both Acton and Laine Christian of Salt Lake City were tied with 97 birds broken. Acton then nailed both of his shoot-of- f targets to claim the title. Christian was declared Class A's winner. Hill's Mark Stephens captured the more difficult international event, hitting 93 percent of his targets in Class A. Hill's Scott Schroeder finished second with a score of 92. Shooters from four different classes competed in the doubles event. Brenda Christian from Salt Lake first-roun- wn-- v 'iv , d City (wife of Class A winner Laine Christian) won Class B with a score of 96. Classes C and D were represented by Lanny Jones of Salt Lake City and Richard McMullen of Bountiful with scores of 90 and 83, respectively. International saw competitors from three classes. Hajime Yamazaki won Class B with a score of 88. Trish Schroeder, wife of Scott Schroeder, was declared winner in Class C with a score of 75. Each shooter completed four rounds of 25 birds each for a total of 100 birds for each event. In doubles, two birds are thrown at a time from each station. International birds are thrown singly, but at a greater distance and faster speed, making them more difficult to hit. In the doubles event, ties are broken by a shoot-off- .
