Show M HILL TOP TIMES 187 Friday, Jonuary 23, news on the hi Network provides information from single computer terminal tures available through the Local Area Network. Users should contact their organizational information systems administrator for ideas on how to connect to the network and the benefits offered to users. They are also prioritizing existing data systems and LMS program systems by organization for the transition to the network. Members are dealing with problems, such as the lack of funding for the acquisition of the Network Interface Unit that is required for each terminal before it can communicate with these units. The most important part of the Information System's administrator's function on the committee is to iden- tify customers' requirements, type of terminals they are using and coordinate information with the customers in the organization they represent. They will prepare the Information Systems requirements documents to obtain necessary approval for their customer needs. It is anticipated that by May 1987, the LAN will be installed in 82 buildings at Hill. The installation will continue to be expanded through fiscal By Bud Strayhorn and Ardena Taylor Information Systems. Network Management is an impor- tant part of the Air Force Logistics Management Systems program which will modernize the logistics computer systems through the creation of a two-wa-y electronic communications network. This network will serve as a connection for program systems and will give users access to diverse information systems through a single terminal. Essentially, the user will acquire needed information much faster. The Ogden Air Logsitics Center established Network Management after phase 1 of the Local Area Network. An Information Systems Administra-tiv- e Committee will play an important role in the network management. Working closely with Ogden ALC directorates is Bud Strayhorn who will manage the network. Mr. Strayhorn will coordinate with the 2849th Air Base Group, 1881st Communication Squadron, TRW Corporation and the Mitre Corporation to assist in the implementation of other program systems. Two of these systems are the Requirements Data Base and Stock Control and Distribution which are currently being imple-- . mented. It is also possible for data terminals on existing systems to be changed to the network giving them access to the LMS program systems and other fea r'y:V (;... I';1 I ' -- 1990. The committee has meetings each Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the DS conference room, building 849. Potential network users are invited to attend. Their goal is to provide the information, service and network management necessary to give users the benefits of this new technology. . .. e; t (U.S. Air Force Photo) : Gary Peery (left), division chief, Technology and System Integration, and Verlon Duncan, supervisor, ArchitecturaMTechnology and Engineering Branch, look over the plans for the Logistics Management Systems program.
