Located 29 miles from base, Hillhaus sits high in the Wasatch Mountains. The picture-perfec- t setting offers both beauty and convenience. According to Michael Bryson, recreation director at Hill AFB, it is considered as a ski lodge and "is probably the only one operated by the Air Force in ld On-sit- ble with sleeping facilities for 11, seven or six. Getaway oppportunities are expensive no matter where you go, but Hillhaus rates are economical by any standard. Private suites are a pittance, $25 for two people and $30 for three or four. Loft areas are $6 per person. Reservations are required, and can be made up to 28 days in advance for 13 or less. For a group of 14 or more, reservations should be made 56 days in advance. Added highlights are close locations to Snowbasin ski trails and tubing Ski Resort, plus hills close by. The lodge is not restricted to winter or summer use. Reservations are accepted as early as Jan. 1 for the summer season, beginning June 1, and closing Nov. 15. The lodge has a large deck, barbecue pit and can accommodate volleyball or basketball. Although most of the people who use the chalet are from local areas, there have been guest pilots who fly in from out of state. "We get people from as far away as Florida," said Mrs. Beebe. The facility has seen renovations and updates in its lifespan, staying with the trend. A remodeled kitchen and repaved parking area are coupled with a satellite dish for better television reception, establishing Hillhaus as a top grade quality mountain lodge.
