Exchange stores also carry op- tional military clothing items. The Air Force issues all initial clothing items the clothing bag to recruits. Members must replace those clothing items, using their annual clothing allowance. Clotliing allowances are adjusted at the beginning of each fiscal year to compensate for increases in DPSC prices. The clothing allowance is based on the estimated wear life replacement cost of the cloth(AF News Service) ing bag items. Air Force needs military volunteers to change jobs that Air Force needs about 800 people to voluntarily change jobs under the second phase of its fiscal 1987 retraining Some skills are considered or oriented toward hands-o- n work, while others are geared toward technicians and supervisors. While retraining is used by the Air Force to meet the demands of changing requirements it also benefits the individual, the officials pointed out. Retraining gives career airmen one of their few opportunities to change career fields, the officials explained. Retraining also allows noncommissioned officers in overage skills to become fully employed and productive, and affects promotion opportunity by ensuring the continuation of equal selection in all skills. The officials emphasized they'd like to fill all of the retraining class seats with volunteers. Those who volunteer for retraining can list their preferred specialties and will receive consideration for a base of choice. The first phase of the program was labor-intensiv- program. Air Force Military Personnel Center officials at Randolph AFB, Texas, said letters are being sent to those being considered for selective retraining. The letters advise them of their relative standing and invite them to seek retraining as soon as possible. There are about 1,100 class seats allotted for the 1987 program. More than 300 people volunteered for retraining during the first, voluntary phase. The special retraining programs for second- - and subsequent term people help meet changes in manpower authorizations, weapon systems and equipment conversions, and other mission requirements, the officials ex- plained.
