Show HILL TOP TIMES -- Friday. July 12, 1985 7 SSS8S85HS VL L 111 ships and subparagraph b is quoted so that no misinterpretation occurs. "However, officers and NCO must make sure their personal relationships with members, for whom they exercise a supervisory responsibility or whose duties or assignments they are in a position to influence, do not give the appearance of favoritism, preferential treatment, or impropriety. Excessive socialization and undue familiarity, real or perceived, degrades leadership and interferes with command authority and mission effectiveness." Paragraph 7c states: "... if an officer consistently and frequently attends other than officially sponsored enlisted parties, or if a senior Air Force member dates and shows favoritism and preferential treatment to a junior member, it may create situations that negatively affect unit cohesiveness; that is, positions of authority may be weakened, peer group relationship may be- come jeopardized, job performance may decrease, ' and loss of unit morale and spirit may occur." This column was not intended for quotations of Air Force directives, but I have made an exception in this case to reemphasize the Air Force regulations and policies with which we are all expected to comply. MsCAtfL,fcH?: Fraternization explained on the Air Force QWhat is policy It seems to me that it has a ten- dency to separate the enlisted members from the officer ranks which can cause hard feelings and prevent positive relationships among members who are supposed to be working together for a common cause. 30-Air Force Standards, is very in answering your question. This should have been distributed to each regulation member of the active Air Force and members of the Air Force Reserves and Air National Guard. Excerpts from section B, paragraph 6 are quoted for your benefit and other military personnel who do not understand the Air Forca standard: "...You are responsible for carrying out orders, performing specific daily tasks related to your duties, and living up to the high standards of the Air Force. If you are a supervisor, you have the responsibility to make sure your subordinates meet the same standards. You are also held accountable for your actions, both in the performance of duties and in your personal, conduct..." Paragraph 6b goes on to state, "Officer and enlisted open mess members may occasionally be guests at one another's open mess for officially sanctioned functions..." Paragraph 7 concerns professional relation AAFR 1, Grade charts coming Would it to a chart Q and possible provide designating the different ranks, enlisted officer. With the influx of different military ' personnel from the Hill AFB area and the Defense Depot Ogden area, plus the foreign troops and ROTC students we have here on base, it is sometimes hard to tell what rank a person is and whether or not we should salute. Your point is well taken! Displaying proper respect to the grade is foremost in everyone's mind. The tendency to dismiss services grade recognition is more a function of ignorance, than anything eke. The only effective way to deal with this is to educatere-educat- e our people on the insignia "differences" between the services. I'll recommend Public Affairs use the Hilltop Times as the vehicle to adopt your suggestion run grade structure charts. Look for this to happen soon. Thanks for your input! A . Roadworlc took forever! The new surface on South Gate Drive is wonderful, but why did it take so long to complete the job after it had been started? The road was to be repaved because of alligator cracking, extensive surface deterioration, and reflective cracking. The surface was to be milled 1 inches so that the new asphalt surface would not be higher than the gutter. Extensive subbase deterioration was found after the asphalt was milled which required a modification to repair the subbase prior to overlaying the road. The modification had to be processed prior to patching and overlaying the road. They have been softening the infield some by breaking up the surface and removing the rocks. They have also directed efforts toward creating a more even playing surface by filling low spots and rutted areas with new soil. Every effort is being made to upgrade this field.
