Show HILL TOP TIMES .Mday, July 12, 1985 Jyly Dd 20-1- 6 Ogden ALC Public Affairs Office More than 3,000 military members, dependents and guests entered the gates of Hill AFB July 4 for the annual Independence Day celebration ; ' had captured the judges' taste buds and earned the right to represent Hill at the state cook-of- f July 20 in Ogden. In the pavilion, doggers and folk . A parade with all the trimmings of horses, floats, queens, decorated bicycles and fire engines kicked off the thrust of the day's activities. Following the parade, one could stroll through Centennial Park and over the clang of horseshoes hitting the peg, voices could be heard ordering hot dogs, watermelon, cold drinks and snow cones. Painted faces of children dotted the festive crowd and the mellow hum of people's voices was broken when an announcer informed everyone that the softball game was about to begin. After seven innings of battle, including pulled muscles, sore line shoulders, hard hit balls, pbp-updrives and some fantastic plays, the chiefs-colone- dancers entertained the s, , hand-clappin- an event sponsored the the Chaplain's Office as a charity by Un-olynipic- s, function for the Utah Special Olympics. Results of the Commander's Cup events, the shot put and volleyball, were as follows: Shot put: first place, 388th Tactical Fighter Wing team of Col. James F. Record and CMSgt. Larry Jensen; second place, 4487th Aircraft Generation Squadron team of Lt. Col. on Richard Jones and CMSgt. Richard Downing; third place, 2849th Air Base Group team of Col. Lloyd McCoin and SMSgt. George McPeak. The volleyball tournament was won by USAF Hospital Hill surgery unit. The day's activities culminated with fireworks extravaganza. a g day-lonaffair was sponsored by The the Morale, Welfare and Recreation 20-minu- te Division. g, crowd and the announcer called out the opening of the popular "dunk tank."
