Larry Clemmons 388th Component Repair Squadron , i The Hill AFB men's slowpitch softball team took fourth place in the recently played George Stuban Memorial Tournament (double elimination) which was played in Pocatello, Idaho, June 22 and 23. The Falcons got off to a fast start as they won their first two outings by downing hometown favorite Miller of Pocatello by a score of 9-- 7 and a class "A" team from Matzinger Electric 40-Bozeman, Mont. Game one was an extra inning defensive affair while game two had plenty of offense which was provided primarily by the Falcons in their thrashing of Matzinger Electric. The Falcons were flying high as they entered game three against a very good class "A" team from Wendover, Utah. This was one of the better games of the tournament as both teams displayed good defense and potent offense with the Falcons losing a heartbreaker, In game four the Falcons rebounded with a resounding 24-1- 0 victory over United Personnel of Boise, Idaho. Then came game five which was a rematch of their opponent in game two, Matzinger Electric. The teams squared off and slugged it out, but in the end Matzinger was up to the challenge as they downed the Falcons thus eliminating them from the tournament. The Falcons finished with a 2 record as they took fourth place honors for the tournament. Offensively they scored 102 runs while allowing just 57 runs. Other team totals show 138 hits, 35 home runs and a team batting average of .597. Individual team honors in batting went to Jeff Duf field who finished with a .727 batting average, He also shared team honors in hits with teammates Sam Tucker and Hugh Planitz, each having 16. This special event was held to raise funds in support of the Aerospace Foundation, Air Force Assistance Fund and Hill Air Force Base Heritage Foundation. 7. 17-1- 2, 3-- Recreation center offers sailboard class A basic sailboarding seminar is being offered by the Civilian Recreation Center during July and August on the following dates: July 11, 13, 25 and 27; Aug. 22 and 24. : ; Each seminar will be a two-da- y event consisting of one three-hou- r classroom instruction period held Thursday nights, 9 p.m. at Hill AFB. The three-hou- r practical sailing will be held on Saturdays at Willard Bay State Park. Information to be covered in the course will be safebasic sailing theory, board rigging, state sailboardand laws ty, boating regulations, ing equipment and accessories, and a booklet, "How 6-- self-rescu- e, to Sail." All lessons will be taught by certified instructors through the North Shore 'Sailboarding School. Cost of the program is $30 per person. Registration must be done at the Thornton Recreation Center, Bldg. 460. The Civilian Recreation and Sports Loan has purchased six new sailboards that are now available for rental by civilian employees. Civilian Sports Loan is located in Bldg. 524, Ext. 72225. . Tennis tourney slated Junior golf tourney set The Civilian Recreation Center is sponsoring a men's and women's double elimination, single match play open tennis tournament July Matches will be played on the Hill AFB tennis courts.or by arrangement. Cost is $5 per person with a July 12 registration deadline. Signup must be done at the Ticket and Tour Office, Bldg. 460. There will be a players' meeting July 15 at the 15-3- 0. The summit offers a spectacular view of Hayden and Agassic peaks in the High Uintas Primitive Area to the east, and the peaks and lakes of the lakes country to the west. .The trail climbs steadily over rocky terrain. Hikers of all levels of fitness make it to the summit by simply adjusting their climbing speed to match two-mil- e their ability. . Cost is $5 per person. Transportation will be provided by the Recreation Center. Vans will leave Bldg. 564 at 9 a.m. on the morning of the hike. Registration and payment deadline is July 12. Signup for the trip can be done at the Ticket and Tour Office, Bldg. 460, Ext. 72892. Picnic areas are located at the trail head. Each, person is responsible for providing his own lunch. Pitch, hit' and' r'u mi ...competition- setf or tomorrow The pitch, hit and run competition for boys 6 years of age scheduled for tomorrow will begin promptly at 10 a.m. The competition is being sponsored by the Youth Activities Center and will be held at the little league ball diamond.
