Show Vol. 39 No. 26 OGDEN, Wednesday, July 3, 1985 UTAH sv vLi ? A Patriot's Prayer 4s a nation we celebrate our independence with parades and picnics, sparklers and speeches. July 4 is a happy event! But let us also pause for a moment to remember those who paid so dearly and felt so deeply for our "One nation under God. " ls pause, let us recall ; some words of supplication spoken by a great patriot, Thomas Jefferson, at his inauguration. "I shall need, too, the favor of that being in whose hands we are, who led our fathers, as Israel of old, from their native land and planted them in a country flowing with all the necessaries and comforts of life; who has cov ered our infancy with his providence and ur riper years with his wisdom and power, and to whose goodness I ask you to join in supplication with me that he will enlighten the mind of your servants, guide their councils and prosper their measures, that whatsoever they do shall result in your good, and shall secure to you the peace, friendship and approbation of all nations." These words spoken almost 200 years ago seem to have a renewed freshness in light of recent tragic events. More than ever we pray God's hand to "enlighten the mind of your servants" (our leaders), to secure for us all the "peace, friendship and (support) of all nations." . . More than ever let us pray to be "one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and all. '" for Chaplain (Capt., USAFR) Steven D.
