Show HILL TOP TIMES Cln)fle ips suggesfieirSf Michael J. Choate, an engineering draftsman, Directorate of Maintenance, received an award of $2,074 making him the top suggester for July. Mr. Choate noted that a pin on the conveyor system used to transport AIM-- 9 missiles through the painting process would jam and break causing the mis- to be damaged. He suggested a new indexing system be fabricated to eliminate this problem. The new system resulted in tangible savings of $45,796 to the Air Force in rework and replacement costs of the AIM-- 9 missiles previously damaged during the painting process. Mr. Choate resides in West Valley City, sile Utah. Another top suggestion of $1,760 went to Jerry L. Hamblin, industrial equipment mechanic, Directorate of Distribution for his proposal on the pneu- matic tube system. Mr. Hamblin proposed a sturdier locking system using metal strips welded to the tube door. This modification has been accomplished on 30 carriers and no problems have occurred. The adopted suggestion resulted in savings of damaged material, system downtime, and the buying of new carriers. The Air Force realized tangible savings of $27,000, plus intangible benefits as a result of Mr. Hamblin's approved suggestion.
