Show 1r HILL TOP TIMES Friday, March 16,' 1984 0 self 01 Numerous planned military construction projects estimated to cost $82 million will be initiated during the next six years to prepare the Ogden Air Logistics Center for its role as logistical and maintenance support manager for the Peacekeeper intercontinental ballistic missile system. Ogden Air Logistics Center also has worldwide logistical and maintenance support responsibilities for some of the Air Force's other more sophisticated weapon systems, including the F-- 4 and 6 fighter aircraft and Titan II and Minuteman ICBMs. F-1- Formerly known as "Missile X" or "M-X,- " Peacekeeper is the latest ICBM in the U.S. inventory. It has four stages, is approximately 72 feet long and 7.5 feet in diameter and weighs more than d 190,000 pounds. Stages I, II and III are d liquid-fueleand rocket motors, while Stage IV is houses the guidance and control system. The missile carries 10 multiple independently-targete- d vehicles or MIRVS, capable of striking 10 different solid-fuele- re-ent-ry targets. While some new facilities will be built in support of the Peacekeeper program, many of the projects will involve additions and alterations to existing facilities currently used in the Minuteman program. The general entered active duty in October 1958 and has completed initial pilot training, 2 combat crew training, served as a test pilot conducting numerous system tests on a wide variety of aircraft, was one of. the original members assigned to the 22nd Special Operations Squadron, Zorros and is a command pilot with more than 6,000 flying hours in 40 different types of aircraft.
