Show HILL Thursday, icing crackdown continues Employees of Air Force Logistics Command are continuing to get the cost of overpriced items reduced. Officials at Sacramento Air Logistics Center, McClellan AFB, Calif., recently cited some of their examples. The officials reviewed a purchase order for hinge pins costing $150 each. They discovered the pin was stainless steel wire available from actually a h a local store at $18.50 for a 456-fo? roll. asked the contractor to take another look They at how the item was priced. The contractor stated the pins were indeed overpriced because the cost of another item was accidentally quoted. The company reduced the price to $1 for each pin. Another example was the proposed unit price of $10,912.44 for 22 generators. After the contractor submitted an itemized price list, officials at the center learned that another company could produce the same generators for $5,565 per unit. That company sold the generators to the Air Force at a saving of $120,800.68. 15-inc- ot When officials received a unit price of $89.10 for 328 tuning resonators, they questioned the price. The tuning resonators resemble a tuning fork and help control fuel flow on various ground control ' equipment. The contractor stated the same piece of equipment could be purchased from his vendor for $47.82 plus handling charges, but refused to disclose the manufacturer's name. The officials located an existing item in the repair shop and examined its nameplate. They contacted the company listed on the plate and were quoted a unit price of $48.61 including handling charges. The Air Force's first year saving is $13,280.72. Gen. James P. Mullins, AFLC commander, is encouraging every member of the command to take a hard look at the cost of doing logistics business. People who question the cost of items or procedures should tell their organization supply price monitor in a letter, or report it through their installation suggestion program office on an Air Force Form 1000. 19 PUT YOUR BRAND ON EVERYTHING .
