My family and I always look forward to this yearly event because we consider it one of the best of the annual activities at Hill AFB. Is it true that there won't be a pow-wothis year? It also states that the installation commander may designate areas where wear of headgear is optional but it must be incorporated in local supplements to AFR v 35-1The Child Care Center is not one of these designated areas and all military personnel must wear hats while in uniform outside this area. It is the responsibility of each Air Force member to be aware of uniform wear requirements and to point out violations when they see them. Eye protection Q hospital and I I work in the emergency room at the base have recently encountered a problem which I believe can be corrected. I've seen two people who were struck in the eye with a handball. They were not wearing any eye protection while playing. In discussion with the people at the base gym, I was informed that eye protection is available, but at this time use is only recommended. I suggest use of eye protection be made mandatory. Patrons could either check out the protection or show that they have it in their possession if they have their own before being allowed to play. I believe this would help prevent serious eye injuries. 0. Janitorial services I have complaint a highly irritating Q nature. In our building the cleaning a therefore, continuous emphasis is given to safety. For racquetball, signs have been posted at the entrance to eachcourt strongly encouraging players to wear eye protection and advising that protective eye wear is available for checkout. To require the wear of protective gear in all sport activities which have injury potential would detract from the enjoyment of the activity. Also, to make such protection mandatory implies the need for constant enforcement. The gym staff is not large enough to monitor this or other possible safety measures. I believe that the safety procedures in effect are reasonable and adequate at this time. : . like to know why so officers and enlisted people are in and out many of the center with no hat on? of people come in to vacuum two or three times a week during our peak work period on the telephone. These requests have not been honored because of many factors bearing on security, cost savings and energy requirements. For example, accomplishing janitorial tasks after normal duty hours would misuse' utility consumption at least 35 percent, because we must provide lighting after 6 p.m. from October through April. This additional cost would exceed $575,000 annually. Contract costs have also been negotiated for day shift. Changing this to a night schedule would add another 10 percent minimum. We have also experienced security problems with the existing limited cleaning. This would increase most significantly. In view of these conditions, we will continue to have janitorial services performed during normal duty hours. you call, your comments will be recorded and staffed through the responsible agency for action.
