Woodard were selected as the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing's Outstanding Airmen of the Year during an awards ceremony held Nov. 16. About 265 people gathered at the Hill AFB NCO Club to honor 15 of the wing's enlisted members and to watch as the wing's top three airmen were named. The nominees were grouped into three categories according to rank. In the airman basic through senior airman category were: SrA. Katheryn A. Nightingale, a materiel facilities specialist representing Headquarters Squadron Section; SrA. Richard B. Anson II, a jet engine mechanic, representing the Component Repair Squadron; Airman Woodard, an aircraft maintenance technician from the 4487th Aircraft Generation Squadron; A1C Russell H. Marsh, a munitions systems specialist from the Equipment Maintenance Squadron; and A1C Michael W, Brewer, an aircraft electrician representing the 4488th AGS. .;: Representatives in the next category, sergeant through technical sergeant, included: SSgt. Raymond H. Emery Jr., a pneudraulic technician in CRS; SSgt. Reynaldo B. Suyat, an armament systems technician for EMS; Sgt. Brian E. Aldridge, a unit orderly room specialist in the 4487th Aircraft Generation Squadron; Sergeant Reed, an aircraft maintenance technician Wednesday, November 24, 1982 now serving as the wing historian representing HSS; and Sgt. Kathleen B. Goergen, an integrated avionics specialist in the 4488th AGS. Rounding out the field in the master sergeant through chief master sergeant category were: SMSgt. Joseph M. Walton, a jet engine mechanic in the HSS; MSgt. Mancel A. Ready, also a jet engine mechanic assigned to CRS; Sergeant Collen, an armament systems manager in EMS; MSgt. Roger D. Thompson, an integrated avionic communications, navigation, and penetration aids system technician for the 4487th AGS; and MSgt. Linwood G. Greene, an aircraft maintenance superintendent for the 4488th AGS. The evening began when CMSgt. Bill Bryan, wing senior enlisted advisor, introduced CoL Peter T. Kempf, 388th TFW commander, and the 15 outstanding airmen along with their wives or guests. The invocation was given by Chaplain Patrick Feely, base chaplain. After a roast beef dinner and a short intermission, Colonel Kempf addressed the crowd. He emphasized the important role enlisted men and women of the wing play in helping accomplish wing goals. He also commended all of the outstanding airmen on their individual initiative and combined accomplishments. Pride, purpose and professionalism were three ideals the colonel stressed and added honor graduate of that these qualities were obvious in the selection of the 15 squadron AFB is his first duty station. He has been selected as the 388th AGS Airman of the Month and Squadron Crew Chief of the Month twice. He is a member of the wing advisory council and in June received the wing's Safety Award and the Air Force Achievement Medal for his positive actions in saving a pilot and aircraft involved in a fire. Some of his hobbies include camping, fishing and hiking. He is. married to the former Sylvia Haller-manand they have one daughter. Besides going up for the base Airmen of the Year award, the three 388th selectees will also compete for top honors in 12th AF and Tactical representatives. Colonel Kempf concluded by announcing the three selectees. The senior NCO selectee, Sergeant Collen, enlisted in the Air Force on April 9, 1966. He volunteered for duty in Vietnam and was promoted to ' ' staff serg eant with less than three years of active duty. Throughout his Air Force career he has been stationed in such overseas sites as Guam, Greece and Germany. He is married ' to the former Connie Summers, and they have two boys. Sergeant Reed was first assigned to the 388th TFW in 1970 at Korat Royal Thai AB, Thailand, as a jet aircraft maintenance technician. After the wing's return to Hill' AFB, he served as a weapons systems controller, social actions liaison and wing work has historian. His after-dut- y served to facilitate the transition of into the American society. He also instructs in survival English, n, Air Command. All 15 airmen received 6 models engraved with their name and unit and a personalized 6 poster from Colonel Kempf.
