' e de low-co- lrlsrytsiiry cross-countr- . n n3 A survey among 60 potential members indicated that although initially the activities of the club would be concentrated upon student pilot training toward the private pilot certificate and instrument rating, as membership grew there would be iny creased emphasis on flying and training for the commercial certificate. v Reorganization of the Hill AFB Aero Club entered its final phase this past week when the newly elected president, Lt. Col. Alvin M. Cotlar, chief, Surgical Services, USAF Hospital Hill, met with Col. Joseph Battaglia, Base Commander, and Col. John Wolfe, Deputy Base Commander, to discuss plans for the Aero Club's location and operation. This meeting climaxed five months of study by active duty and civilian personnel at Hill who supconcept that aero clubs are port the Air Force-wiinvaluable in promoting morale by giving eligible people the opportunity to enjoy safe and operations and increase skills in aeronautics while enjoying a social activity. The base' commander approved the concepts established by the club's board of governors. - Flight operations of the club will originate from Ogden Airport because of the heavy military traffic load at Hill. Special club events will be at Hill AFB, military training schedules permitting. Ground school classes will be taught on base. CDplq) Upon receipt of completed applications from 150 individuals, final application to MAJCOM will be made for official approval for establishing the club. The anticipated date of operation is Feb. 15, 1983. There have been 120 individuals who have by attendance at organizational meetings or by phone calls to MWR shown interest in the project. It remains now for the membership drive to obtain 150 completed applications which must be accompanied by a check for $35 or a letter of good standing from another aero club. The money will be held in escrow under MWR supervision. Printed material advertising the club and offering instructions to potential members is being distributed throughout the base and at other DDO facilities where eligible individuals are employed.
