HILL TOP TIMES 1980 'Professional's task not easy' members fold Hill Ad Club In an address before 180 Hill Administrative Club members at the club's kickoff luncheon on Sept. 25, Commander Maj. Gen. John J. Murphy to a issued exercise challenge in professionalism managerial responsibilities. A true professional, as defined by General Murphy, gains his satisfaction, not in material things, but in high standards of conduct and integrity. "If you're in it for the money, you'll never be a pro," he stated. Citing AFLC Commander Geft. Bryce Poe II on professionalism, he counseled the managers to: get problems out on the table, stand up and be counted, accept the fact that you are responsible for your subordinates, be aware of how things are done, don't accept things at face value, and look for the better way of doing things. General Murphy issued a call for higher standards of performance. He challenged the OO-AL- C meaningfully high standards, let your subordinates know what they are, and then stick by them. Professionals do not always do the easy task or the thing they like to do, but what has to be done. His challenge to all was to be dependable, patient, fair, and truly professional in all their responsibilities. The general commended the Hill Administrative Club for their past good works, including more than $22,000 of scholarships awarded to high school seniors by the club to date. He quoted a scholarship recipient of past years with a motto which he challenged all to incorporate in their work: "If it is to be, it's up to me." Mr. Reed comes to Hill under the handicapped program and was accepted for employment in the Missile, Airmunitions and Weapons Division, Directorate of Maintenance.
