Hosted by the '405th CLSS (AFRes) stationed at Hill, the 401st joined the 301st Tactical Fighter Wing from Carswell AFB, Tex., and the 304th Air Rescue and Recovery Squadron from Portland, Ore. in the nationwide deployment that brought the three units to Hill. Sixteen of the 40 deployed members of the 401st along with four personnel from the 405th attended the Field Training Detachment aircraft battle damage repair CLSS i t 'r '"y" ! - (ABDR) course with four a active duty members of. Hill's 2952nd CLSS. The new ABDR techniques are designed to achieve a very rapid return of the aircraft to combat methods. The class was only the second ever held in aircraft battle damage techniques, and the 401st and 405th folks were the first reservists to participate in the training. Personnel from both units also participated in the 6 modification program now under direction of the Directorate of Maintenance's F-1- aircraft division. This was a second "first," as the group of reservists were the first to directly train and maintain the Air Force's newest combat fighter. , Normal training and active involvement in the CLSS maintenance program was provided by the 2952nd squadron, advisor to the reserve unit.
