"We would just as soon be known as a trail bike and motor bike club," joked Rick Fresh, Iron Ponies president. "There are too many connotations in the word 'motorcycle', and since cycle safety is our main concern, we want no preconceptions to interfere with that kind of image." A self supporting private association, the Iron Ponies is managed by club officers elected from the general membership. The club is open to all base military and civilian personnel and their dependents. A one mile moto cross track and a two mile trail bike course were completed last yea: They both run adjacent to T'.oid. 758. arri he trail bike course is open to all Hill AFB employees. According to road captain Melvin Prisbrey, much skill and knowledge is necessary to race a motorcycle safely in moto cross, track, cross country and field meets. "No major injuries were incurred by Iron Ponies members in 1972. This shows the ingenuity involved in building a safe motor cross and trail bike course," he ' asserted. Many such days were enjoyed by the Iron Ponies last year, during which they conducted two American Motorcycle Association moto cross events in conjunction with the Dusters.
