Flo Chambers, division secretary, Security Police Division, said: "The mountains of Utah are the most beautiful I've ever seen, and there's no place finer for outdoor living. This is probably my future home." It was in 1968 at Fuchu Air Station, location of the Fifth Air Force, near Tokyo, that Mrs. Chambers, then secfound her reassignment to retary to the HillAFB. She spent several months with the 2705th Ammunitions Wing, and when it was deactivated, went to the Security Police Division in the fall of 1969. This she considers to be a very lucky assignment. But then, Flo Chambers thinks of her entire federal career of 19 years as good luck. It started in July, 1942, when she came to her war job at the Ogden Arsenal, prepared with a good high school record in typing and shorthand. The stenography was never called upon, for her work was in payroll and timekeeping. In 1947, Flo married and went back to Idaho. During the next nine years, two important things hapher daughter, Shawnie, arrived; and Flo became pened a legal stenographer at Sun Valley, Idaho, thereby acquiring a skill that would qualify her for later Air Force secretarial positions. In 1956 she returned to Civil Service at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, as secretary to the commander of the Ninth Bombardment Wing. On this position three years, she was reassigned in 1959 as secretary to the commander of the new 813th Strategic Aerospace Division at the same base. She remained at this desk for five years, and in 1964 the Australian offer happened. An Air Force Liaison Office was being set up at the American Embassy in Canberra, the Australian capital, d Air Force and there was an opening for a secretary to assist in its establishment. Of the two-yetour "Down Under", Flo commented: "Being attached to the American Embassy, we were invited to attend many of the receptions and official functions given by the American Ambassador The Prime Minister and other high officials of the Australian Government attended many of these functions. "The Australian people are warm, friendly people and we cherish our friendships there. My daughter, Shawnie, enjoyed the Australian National Schools, which were very thorough and sound, we thought." Flo expected to return to the U.S. in 1966, but the chance for the Japan tour was too tempting. They stayed at Fuchu AS for two years. "We had a small private house at Fuchu, and since we were only 20 minutes from Tokyo by fast train, there was lots to do. The restaurants and shopping were wonderful. We took tours to places such as Kyoto, the old capital, noted for many shrines and temples, to Nikko, Nagoya and several other Japanese cities. Travel was easy and inexpensive." Shawnie graduated from Chofu, an American high and is now in her junior year at the University school, of Utah. She and her mother live in Salt Lake City. What are career girls made of?
