June 18 will be the only day open for practice rounds on the Hill Golf Course. In the championship competition, trophies will be awarded for the lowest gross score and for the five lowest net scores. In the remaining flights trophies will also 'be awarded to the lowest gross score and the five lowest net scores. Last year's winner, Bev total Nelson, with a three-da- y of 233; second place finisher, Janet Thurgood, with a 235; and third place finisher Marsha Thayne, with a 237, are all expected to enter this year's tournament, according to Mrs. R. D. Bollinger, publicity chairman for the Hill Women's Golf Association. Women from Hill AFB who took honors in last year's championship were Barbara A. San-tewith the second lowest net Brooker with the fifth lowest net score. Another winner in the tournament last year was Bobbie Salcon playing in the third flight and finishing with the second lowest score. There will be an awards luncheon on June 27 at the Hill golf clubhouse. Angels at Top Of Little League Team number five, the Angels, is currently in first place in the Hill AFB Little League with a record of The eight team league has displayed good hitting and fielding during competition, according to TSgt. Kelly, secretary and treasurer of the Hill AFB Little League. Leading hitters of the league are Bobby Roberts and Bryan Kalvin, both from team number one, Bobby Morgan from team number two and David Kelly from team number five. Andy Smothers from team number eight is leading the league in pitching with a 3-- 0 record. Planned for July At Base Course 17-1- Hill Women Golfers W) Youth Golf Tourney Officials of the Hill AFB Youth Council and Golf Council have started planning for de- -. this year's military-civilia- n pendent youth golf tournament which is scheduled for July 8 at the base course. A large turnout of young golfers is expected. Many trophies, prizes, gifts and refreshments will be offered. No entry fee or charge will be as- sessed for this event. All military and civilian junior high and high school youths whose parents are assigned or employed at Hill AFB are invited to play in this event. Activities will start each day at 9 a.m. with a 30 minute golf clinic and review of golf etiquette. The tournament will be played in two flights, Flight "A" will be for the senior youths (high school age) and will consist of two 18 hole rounds. Flight "B" will be for the junior youths (junior high age) and will consist of two 9 hole rounds. Girls and boys will compete separately but on the same arrangement except the girl's Flight "A" will be for 9 holes. Scoring will be based on one low gross score in each flight and there will be four additional places in each flight based on the official calloway handicap system. Play will be by threesomes and there will be a best ball match for each threesome.
