Show HILL TOP TIMES Page 18 Three Aero Club Students Complete Solos "Shirt-ta- il cutting three Hill cere- Aero monies" for Club students who completed their solo flights were conducted by club members with Maj. M. A. Kaufmann, SSgt. James Anderson and A1C Gerald Magnuson in the starring roles. Major Kaufmann, chief of the Accounting and Finance Division, Comptroller, completed his solo flight after 12 hours of instruction. He has been assigned to Hill AFB for 10 months and hopes to obtain his private license before returning to his home in San Rafel, Calif., next month. Herbert Dyer, an aircraft specialist in the Tech Services Division was his instructor. An employee of Hill for 20 years, Mr. Dyer holds a flight instructor's rating and also an FA A Airplane and Power Plant rating. Missile Technician Sergeant Anderson is a missile instrumentation technician equipment F-1- 01 in the 2727th AMS and possesses an FAA Aircraft and Power Plant license. He soloed after nine and one half hours of training under the instruction of Mr. Dyer. Security policeman Tom Holt was the instructor of Airman Magnuson, an aircraft mechanic in the 28th MAS, who soloed after 12 training hours. The Aero Club has moved to Hangar 1 from its old location in Hangar 295. The club received its third airplane, a Cherokee 180C The plane is recently. for four, with 150 pounds of baggage and a speed of 136 miles an hour. Club officials said the new plane burns around eight gallons of fuel in an hour and has a radio compass, navigation instruments and a three-ligmarker beacon. It is an excellent cross country traveler and instrument trainer. The club has many new openings for members due to trans four-passeng- er well-equipp- club officials said. All those needing instruction are invited to attend ground school, and they are especially urged to do so if they are training for an FAA private license or if they wish to refresh themselves on their knowledge of FAA regulations, weather information and navigation. Mr. Holt is the ground school instructor at present.
